This is normally a busy time for CTV-21. Local political parties are thrusting their candidates into the spotlight and hoping that the voters will make the right choice. This presents us with many opportunities to capture debates, forums, and "Meet the candidate" nights. We wish we could cover them all, we can't, but you can. Many of these are organised with a similar format - 2 or 3 tables (depending on the number of candidates and partys) a moderators podium, all usually connected to a public address system and lasting about 60 -90 minutes. While it is nice to have 3-4 cameras with varying angles, the need for this level of production is often not necessary. We like to do them because they make great programming for the channel, but mainly we do them for you. These truckshoots, especially if they are in your town, are interesting, often dramatic, and bring a level of excitement to the event becaue you can't help but notice an 11,000lb truck and 7-8 crew members.
We plan on taping these 2 debates in the coming weeks:
* Woodbury First Selectman's Debate at Nonnewag HS - September 30th
* Brookfield First Selectman's Debate at Whisconnier Middle School - October 7th
There may certainly be others, but consider producing one on your own. We have done many as single camera shoots and it is not beyond anyone's ability to do a good job.
In other news: If you are working on a project, or have completed the producer training project, you should be coming to the Intern Film Festival! (This Thursday the 17th @ 6:30pm) The festival was meant to be a way for the current intern group to reconnect one more time before the end of the session and share their accomplishments, challenges, stories, and productions with each other. Please RSVP and make sure your project is on a format we can display in the studio.
If you know of anyone who is interested in CTV-21 or just wants to see what the heck you've been doing all summer - Tell them about the Open House! We have almost finished our upgrade of the control room and the changes are good. The Open House runs from 10am to 8pm September 24th.
Local Edition returns with 2 more episodes on the 29th of this month. Phyllis will be interviewing representatives from 2 non-profit organizations - a local land trust and "Ann's Place" the home of "I Can" which provides services and support to cancer patients and their families.
