Charter Communications’ CommuniTyVision 21 Garners Public Service Awards

The Following 3 paragraphs are excerpted from a press release going out to local media this week. We would like to share these awards with all the participants of CTV-21 as well as those who have used our recycling campaign to get rid of their unwanted tapes. We couldn't have done it without you! Congratulations to Megan and Mark on this achievement.

CommuniTyVision 21, the local public access channel operated by Charter Communications, received recognition recently at the New England Cable and Telecommunications Association (NECTA) annual public service awards gala. NECTA is a non-profit organization representing the New England cable industry. The 20th annual public service competition recognized excellence in the production of TV promotional campaigns, projects, and programming in several categories, such as creativity, presentation, and overall campaign effectiveness.

CommuniTyVision 21 was awarded 1st place for its TV spot campaign promoting “Recycle Your Videotapes,” produced by Megan Irwin. A series of TV spots were designed and produced to depict ways in which community members could positively impact the environment by properly discarding old audio and videotapes. To date, over 12,000 videotapes, disks, cassettes and 8-track tapes have been recycled as a result of the campaign.

Producer Mark Ingram received an Honorable Mention award for his video entitled “Cyber Bullying.” This 60-minute program featured three local professionals, Gary Gramling, Chris Delia and Alex Boianghu, who shared their knowledge regarding Internet safety, including training parents to recognize and stop cyber bullying, harassment, taunting and teasing.

On a separate note, we want to acknowledge the interns that signed up for the Truck Shoot on July 17th at the Brookfield town park. We were banking on a weather report that claimed the rain would not come until after midnight. We have seen a different kind of Summer weather this year, not all bad, but certainly unexpected at times. We will be going back to Brookfield at the end of August to try again. Look for that truck shoot to be posted soon. Please understand that outdoor truck shoots are always susceptible to weather conditions and for everyone's safety we may sometimes cancel at the drop of a hat (or rain water), so keep in touch with the office if you want the latest update on the status of any shoot.

Finally, we still have open positions for crew members for "Local Edition" on the 28th and "Connecting" on the 31st. The Local Edition topics will be on a Horse rescue organization in washington called H.O.R.S.E. and the other topic is an interview with accomplished documentary filmmaker John Maher (pron: Mar). He has created several films about the local area as well as an interesting travelogue he documented of a mid-west drum corps competition. For anyone interested in film-makeing this is a great opportunity to come hear and talk with someone who has been there and done that and produced it.
