Our friends, Frank & Patrise Galterio (Founders of the Kent Film Festival) are the only ones keeping the spirit of independent film alive in CT by showing films and scheduling workshops with speakers from the industry. Taping it is not entirely out of the question. Permission to do that would be done by calling the same phone number on the post and talking with Frank or Patrise. It may be up to the presenter, anyone is welcome to explore the opportunity.

ReplyDeleteI attended the John Putch Workshop today and found it very informative. His main message was that if you’re going to make a film make something that means something to you, don’t do it for the $$$. While you’re making it have fun and be open to other people’s suggestions. He gave a link to the seminar, which you can download as a PDF – www.putchfilms.com/seminar.zip
ReplyDeleteOne of the movies he made for about $50,000 is the Mojave Phone Booth (www.mojavephonebooth.net). He said he hasn’t made his money back yet, so the 8 members of the crew and cast haven’t made any money on it yet either. Each person who participated will get an equal share of any money the movie makes. It is available on Amazon.com
Another example of a “low budget” movie, which did make it to mainstream theater, was the Brothers McMullen. I believe he said that movie cost around $16,000. to make.
Overall, it was an afternoon well spent and very informative.
